You can find the strangest (and most interesting) museums in Moscow, like this one, with handmade objects from the USSR era. Since there were things you just couldn't get because they were either impossible to find or too expensive, people made them themselves. The penultimate one, for instance, is a fridge made out of a cupboard. I guess it's true that scarcity (and necessity) is the mother of invention.
